Spanish
The Spanish curriculum at Junior Cert level is designed to enhance students' thinking and communication skills, in addition to allowing them to participate in a global society. At Edmund Rice College, students will learn to speak and write Spanish but in addition to this, they will gain a sense of the rich cultural heritage of Spanish speaking countries. The course has three strands:
a.) communicative competence
b.) language awareness
c.) socio-cultural knowledge and intercultural awareness
At Edmund Rice College, these aims are met through varied and interactive lessons which combine listening, speaking and writing and allow the students to engage fully with the course material. Cultural activities such as trips which allow them to experience aspects of Spanish culture like cuisine and music are also organised to enhance the students' understanding and appreciation of the Spanish speaking world.
