English
The English Junior Cycle course aims to develop students' knowledge of language and literature, to consolidate and deepen their literacy skills and make them more self-aware as learners. At Edmund Rice College students achieve these aims through:
*being creative through language by means of writing or presenting in a multimedia format
*developing control over the English language and competence in oral, reading and writing skills
*engaging with and thinking critically about a broad range of texts, including poetry, prose and film
* understanding the conventions of the English language and maintaining clarity in communication
At Edmund Rice College, English lessons incorporate all of these elements to allow the students to achieve their very best at Junior Certificate level. In order to facilitate a broader engagement with all facets of the English language, cultural activities such as trips to the theatre allow students to develop a deeper appreciation for the diversity of their subject.
